The most welcoming café in town is easy to miss unless you look carefully: “Fusion Coffee” sits quietly on Zhongshan Road, tiny and unremarkable outside, but the moment you step in the owner’s warm greeting and the relaxed chatter of the regulars wrap around you like a blanket. “Second Sister,” proprietress Lin Pei-yu, says that is exactly the feeling she wants the shop to give: a living-room vibe where everyone slips into the ease of old friends. Hence the name—every visitor should “fuse” into the atmosphere and feel the human “temperature” of the place. Back when the shop was still a franchise, most guests were young families; sixteen years after going independent, the clientele hasn’t changed. “Many of them have grown up with us,” Second Sister says, eyes soft with gratitude. “Regulars still make up the bulk of our guests—only twenty or thirty percent are first-timers, but once they come, they stay.” No surprise: owner Huang Wei-shun personally selects and roasts every bean, while Second Sister, drawing on years in hospital nutrition, inspects every ingredient for the desserts and light meals, insisting that guests eat well. With that level of care, loyalty is inevitable. Although drinks can be customized, the star is the hand-drip series, especially the signature “Ice-Drip Jia-Rong.” Inspired by the film KANO, Second Sister created the name and even the presentation: nine ice-drip spheres stand for the nine players, the round glass is the baseball diamond, and the milk poured over them fuses the spheres—just as the team’s hearts became one. No fancy décor, no artful displays—just a plain, simple space selling more than coffee, dessert, and snacks.
