南投縣埔里鎮桃米巷52之12號
Modern-style paper chapel supported by 58 paper tubes, forming a rectangular corridor with strong geometric elements, and a slightly luminous ceiling creating a soft and sacred atmosphere. This unique "Paper Dome New Homeland Learning Park" is located near Taomi Ecological Village, known for its rich natural ecology. It is an excellent destination for summer lotus viewing, butterfly watching, or observing frog habitats. Families can enjoy a spring ecological trip and book a guided tour to explore the story behind the Paper Chapel. (Image source: Paper Chapel official website map guide) The story of the Paper Chapel began after the 1995 Hanshin-Awaji earthquake in Japan. Architect Shigeru Ban built a temporary paper tube chapel as a place of worship within the collapsed Takatori Congregation. Having completed its purpose, this symbolic paper chapel representing earthquake recovery now has traveled across oceans to the Taomi Community, continuing its mission to comfort people affected by disasters. Walking into the Paper Chapel, one is amazed not only by the architectural beauty, seeing the paper's softness transformed into strength to support this entire chapel, but also to feel the resilience of life that emerges more powerfully after disasters. Learning Center Adjacent to the chapel, the "Learning Center" uses steel as its primary material, shaping it into various forms through curling and twisting, challenging the cold and rigid nature of steel to create an interesting contrast against the strong, paper-based architecture of the Paper Chapel. Vibrant Life in the Park Best period for lotus appreciation: approximately May to July Night frog observation available: April to September, with tour reservations Beyond enjoying the Paper Chapel and Learning Center, two distinctly styled structures, the park is filled with various butterfly-attracting plants. Butterflies flutter freely in every corner. The ecological ponds on both sides exhibit rich water plants, and frog songs echo at night. During summer, this area becomes a popular lotus-viewing destination. Vast pink lotuses sway with the wind, and you can enjoy meals with scenery at the restaurant for the most pleasant experience.
