新竹縣尖石鄉控溪1之1號
The Laokakao National Trail is composed of two ancient trails, the "Xiakakao Police Road" and the "Sakaya Police Road". It was originally a patrol road that spanned across the domains of the two major Atayal subgroups: the "Khanaygi" group in Jipeng Township, Hsinchu County, and the "Xiakakao" group in Wufeng Township. The two subgroups were separated by a north-south ridge of the Dasihan Mountain, which has an elevation of over 2,000 meters. However, there were still pathways connecting them for visits, hunts, and support. During the Japanese colonial era, the Japanese military and police were constantly at war with the Atayal people in this area. The Japanese authorities built and expanded on existing native trails to create military roads. The road had to cross over the northern saddle of the Dasihan Mountain (then known as the "Dasihan Mountain Ridge Road"). The Laokakao National Trail possesses historical significance and tourism value, and is a new maple-viewing route that combines knowledge and sentiment. The trail has many remnants of Japanese-era police stations and patrol roads. In addition, there are also many impressive straight-bamboo forests and red maple trees. The scenery is very beautiful, with the bamboo forests forming a green tunnel and the maple trees adding splashes of color.
