The calla lily is originally from South Africa. Because its bracts bloom like an upside-down horseshoe, and the plant grows in water like a lotus, it is called "Horse Shoe Lily". Currently, the total area of calla lily fields in Zhuzihhu is about 13 hectares, accounting for more than 80% of the country's calla lily production. The calla lily blooming season is from January to May each year, with the peak blooming period in March and April. The calla lilies in Zhuzihhu are mainly white, and the elegant "spathe" is not the flower itself. On the yellow spadix in the center of the spathe, there are many unremarkable small flowers, with separate male and female flowers, arranged in order.
During the calla lily season (from 2/27 to 4/17), on holidays (including weekends), traffic control measures will be implemented in the Zhuzihhu area, with one-way traffic flow in the direction of the Hetai Avenue from the Hutian Bridge. The one-way control on Hetai Avenue will be enforced until the intersection with Zhongzheng Mountain. In addition, the section of the Hutian Bridge to Donghu will be two-way traffic, and the Dinghu section will be one-way traffic with no U-turns, guiding traffic to leave via the newly built stone path to Yangjin Highway. The traffic control in the Zhuzihhu area will be in effect from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on holidays, with possible adjustments based on actual traffic flow. Due to the limited road width in the Zhuzihhu area, it is recommended that people visiting the area make use of public transportation, such as the MRT or buses. For information on public transportation, please visit the website of the Taipei City Department of Transportation.
