Kaohsiung Guan Di Temple, formerly known as “Guan Di Hall,” is one of the most bustling and historically venerable temples in Kaohsiung. It is believed to have been founded more than 300 years ago. The temple’s main deity is Guan Yu, the Emperor of Loyalty and Righteousness, along with the Lady of Birth and the Deity of Fortune. In the rear hall, Guanyin, Avalokitesvara, and Manjushri are also enshrined. Additionally, there are halls for Wenchang, the Wealth God, and the Moonlit Old Man, which draw countless devotees praying for good luck and safety. The three‑storey structure, with its yellow tiles and red walls, resembles a palace‑style building, majestic and splendid. In recent years, the Guan Di Temple has worked to blend religious culture with tourism. Especially during the Lunar New Year to Lantern Festival period, the temple hosts a variety of activities such as the “Peace Turtle,” the “Longevity Noodle” feast, lantern riddles, and creative lantern exhibitions. These events make the temple an ideal place to learn about Taiwan’s traditional folk festivals and to pray for blessings.
