屏東縣東港鎮紅樹林濕地公園
Tideland Ecological Park Mangrove is located in the west of Taiping Bay, covering approximately 13.5 hectares, primarily designated for mangrove restoration. Adjacent community domestic sewage and aquaculture effluent are discharged into the wetland naturally through gravity flow. After absorption and utilization by mangrove plants within the wetland, purification effects can be achieved. Due to the rich mangrove ecosystem, an ecological tourism value is constructed. Mangrove distribution areas in Taiping Bay mainly concentrate in the following regions: - **Jianmei Town**: After exploring the mangroves along the first drainage ditch of Tungang, a mangrove stand with coconut trees is present next to the Jianmei Town community. Amidst the lush green landscape, diligent observation at the mudflats may reveal mudskippers playing and foraging. - **First Drainage Ditch**: Extending southward along National Highway 17 leads to the location of the first drainage ditch, a mangrove growth area. In addition to observing mangrove ecology, fiddler crabs are noteworthy here. The numerous small bumps on the mudflats are underground castles constructed by these "engineers," enriching the mudflat with ecological surprises. - **Linbian Drainage Ditch**: Heading southward from the first drainage ditch reaches the Linbian Drainage Ditch mangrove area, attracting numerous waterbirds and serving as a paradise for birdwatchers. **Bird Species**: Taiping Bay National Scenic Area hosts migratory and transient birds, with鹭科 (herons), 鷸行鳥科 (sandpipers), and秧雞科 (rail) predominating. The greatest number are herons, specifically the Little Egret being the most numerous, followed by the Chinese Egret, Great Egret, Grey Heron, and Green Heron. Among sandpipers, the Black-tailed Godwit, Green Sandpiper, Eurasian Sandpiper, and Kentish Plover are prevalent. Notable species also include the Curlew Sandpiper and the Red Avocet from the sandpiper family, along with considerable populations of the Kentish Plover and the Red Avocet. **Marine Species**: Currently, Taiping Bay has identified species such as the Banded Fiddler Crab, Mud Fiddler Crab, Northern凹指招潮蟹 (Ocypodidae genus), and Triangle Fiddler Crab. Male fiddler crabs possess a single prominent claw, which can extend up to three times the length of their carapace. Fiddler crab coloration changes with time and tide, appearing darker during the day and paler at night. They cannot adapt to overly arid environments and primarily inhabit the intertidal zones of Taiping Bay, found in mangrove areas, bay shores, and sandy beaches. **Plant Species**: Mangroves are tall trees or shrubs growing along seashores or estuaries, typically found in tropical and subtropical regions. These plants possess functions such as salt tolerance, wind prevention, sand stabilization, flow reduction, wave attenuation, water purification, dike protection, wildlife habitat provision, and environmental beauty. This area marks the southern limit of Taiwan’s mangrove distribution, with only the Prostanthera corymbosa (Verbena family) remaining. Distribution mainly concentrates in the Tungang First Drainage Ditch, Jianmei Town, and portions of Taiping Bay’s coastline.
