The "Movie Street" in Ximending refers to Section 2 of Wuchang Street. Its history can be traced back to the 1935 Taiwan Exhibition. At that time, Taiwan's economy had reached its peak before the war. In response, the entertainment industry began to develop, and four large luxurious theaters were established, namely: Taiwan Theater (now China Theater), International Hall (now Wannian Commercial Building), Da Shijie Hall, and the Association Hall (now Zhongshan Hall). In addition, there were the original "Rongzuo," "Fangmingguan," "Xinshijie Hall," and "Shijie Er Guan," making a total of eight movie theaters. In 1961, with the completion of the Zhonghua Market, Ximending and the urban area were connected, and the economic development reached its peak. New theaters such as Yuesheng, Hualu, Rixin, Shizi Lin, King, and Queen were successively built, pushing the entertainment industry in Ximending to its peak. Especially in Wuchang Street, there were 6 or 7 movie theaters, making it a genuine "Movie Street." Sometimes, movie companies would cooperate with the joint street activity of the Ximending pedestrian zone to give the Movie Street a new look. Strolling in the pedestrian zone, it's not hard to see related promotional products of movies, such as horror movie costumes, doll figures of characters from animations, life-sized posters, and promotional materials. Walking along Wuchang Street, be careful, because the movies are all around you.
