The Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute, formerly known as the Chinese Taipei Film Archive and the Taiwan Film Institute, is the nation’s only administrative corporation dedicated to the preservation of film and audiovisual assets. A full member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), its mission is to strengthen the collection, research, restoration, and promotion of audiovisual heritage and to make these assets truly public.
The Institute’s new building opened in Xinzhuang in January 2022. Its white façade features curved metallic forms that evoke a sense of technology and futurism, while the sun-shading louvers suggest the passage of time. The archive holds roughly 20,000 film prints and nearly 400,000 audiovisual artifacts. Inside are a 200-seat main cinema and a 50-seat mini-cinema, both outfitted to the highest domestic specifications for an exceptional viewing experience.
