The San-Yuan Temple was rebuilt on its current site in 1976 (65th year of the Republic of China), covering an area of 500 pings. Inside the temple, the statues of Emperor Yao, Emperor Shun, and Emperor Yu are enshrined. The locals refer to them as the "San Jie Gong" (Three Sovereigns). The ancestors of the villagers brought an incense burner from Fujian Province, which was used to carve the statues. The temple is the center of traditional faith for the villagers. Every year, during the Lantern Festival, a grand celebration is held in honor of Emperor Yao. The entire village participates in a grand worship ceremony and invites friends and family to a meal. According to the villagers, the San Jie Gong is very responsive to their prayers, and the temple is always filled with incense smoke. Especially when young men are about to be drafted into the military, their families would come to the temple to pray for a safety charm, and they would all return home safely after completing their military service. The San Jie Gong's responsiveness to the villagers' prayers has made it the largest and most important temple in Taiping Village.
