Before flowing into the Tamsui River, the Keelung River makes a beautiful arc around Shuzhu Island. On its north bank, near the western area of Huanggang Creek, it preserves a very precious rice field in metropolitan Taipei. It connects to the Estuary Mangrove Nature Reserve, allowing people to be isolated from the noise and chaos in a short distance. Cycling through the area, especially, allows one to experience the simple and down-to-earth rural atmosphere of the early years. Taking a stroll along the embankment during the sunset, with the river breeze blowing gently and birds chirping, the Guandu Nature Reserve is full of life and romance. The bike path through Guandu Plain is a non-enclosed path. The west end is Guandu Temple. To the east, it follows the Guandu tidal dike to the Baxian Fude Temple, then turns 90 degrees north through the Guandu Plain until it reaches the south side of the Taipei Metro Chengzhuang Line, and exits to the north to the Dxiang Road west of the Political Warfare School. For travelers unable to bring their own bikes, Guandu Temple is a convenient starting point because it is close to the metro station and it offers bike rentals. The original vendors along the river dike section of Guandu Temple have been completely removed and replaced with walkable pedestrian paths. The fishing boats moored near the Zhonggang River Bridge have been relocated to the side of the Tamsui River. Although it has lost the nostalgic charm of a fishing harbor with boats docked, the water has taken on a refreshing look.
