Kaohsiung Literary Museum is located within Central Park in the heart of Kaohsiung, adjacent to the renowned "City Light Corridor." Established in 1954, the building originally served as the first library in post-war Kaohsiung and became the second central branch in 1997. In 2003, the government renamed the facility as Taiwan's first literary museum named after a city, with local writer Ye Shitao personally inscribing the official name. It formally embarked on the mission of preserving, collecting, and promoting Kaohung literature and was approved by the Cultural Affairs Council as a "Local Cultural House" in 2006. Receiving funding from the Ministry of Culture's "Museum and Local Cultural Institutions Development Plan" in 2020, the renovated space opened for activities and exhibitions as the primary focus. The museum houses exhibition halls, reading rooms, and various multi-functional activity spaces for hosting literary events and themed exhibitions. The second-floor "Kaohsiung Literary Collection Reading Room" contains works by Kaohsiung authors, research papers, and anthologies. This symmetrical two-story building still preserves its original architectural structure and decorative details, fully demonstrating the design style of the 1950s and integrating modernist and Western historical elements. The space combines literary creativity with cultural leisure functions, allowing visitors to enjoy diverse literary experiences while savoring the unique charm of Kaohsiung literature and its writers.
