The main street in San-yi is Zhongzheng Road, where many carving shops line both sides. Almost half of the town's residents make a living from the woodcarving industry. The main wood materials come from Daxueshan, Alishan, Fengyuan, Zhushan, and Zhudong, among others, with camphor wood being the primary material, as well as cypress and sandalwood. What makes San-yi's carvings special is that the masters are good at adapting to the material and using many giant wood prototypes to create lively and natural works, giving them new life. Currently, San-yi's wood carvings are concentrated in Shui-mei. From the San-yi exit of the freeway, following Provincial Highway 3 for about one kilometer, there are over 200 art shops concentrated here. Some have factories set up at the back of their stores. The geographical advantage brings many buyers and also becomes the main trading place for San-yi wood carvings. Walking on Shui-mei Street, whether it's the rough and simple Bodhidharma, the majestic Guanyin, or the lifelike small animals, they are all breathtaking.
