“Tai-Shan Forest Library” (Tai-Shan Indigenous Cultural Center) is housed in a red-brick building inside Ci-Xiu Park. The red bricks symbolize the vitality and passion of the indigenous peoples; surrounding woods and mountain trails echo their harmony with nature. Glass walls invite daylight, letting visitors read amid greenery and quiet. A five-minute walk leads to a lookout with sweeping views of Tai-Shan District, and Ming-Zhi Road is only three minutes away by car, making it a rare urban retreat for families. Planned by the New Taipei City Indigenous Peoples Affairs Department and stocked through public donations, the library holds about 5,000 books: picture books, indigenous literature, children’s literature, natural science, foreign-language picture books, and parenting guides. Its treasures include many indigenous children’s picture books, the complete set of Ainu folktale picture books published by the Japanese government, and a growing collection of indigenous picture books from around the world, aiming to broaden children’s cultural horizons and cultivate their aesthetic sense.
