“A-Shi Shiitake Meatball Soup” has been operating beside Hua Nan Bank for more than fifty years, a fact you can guess just from its weather-worn sign. Don’t dismiss it as a humble street stall—its fame stretches far and wide; even the late President Chiang Ching-kuo is said to have stopped by for a bowl. Its celebrated specialties are the shiitake meatball soup, soy-braised pork rice, and house-made sausage. The braised pork rice is neither too salty nor greasy; the aromatic minced pork and scallions mingle with fluffy grains, the flavor blossoming with every bite.
