苗栗縣泰安鄉清安村橫龍古道
1. Location: Qing'an Village, Tai'an Township 2. Route: Longshan Tribe, Tai'an Township ~ North Peak of Henglong Mountain Triangulation Point 3. Trail length: Approximately 2 kilometers, one-way walking time: about 90 minutes The Henglong Ancient Trail was originally a mountain path used by the Tayal people of the Longshan Tribe (Siwasik) for hunting, and is also known as the Sihuoxig Ancient Trail. The trail was also used for travel between Longshan Tribe and Nanzhuang Lukang Tribe. The trail is lined with tunnels of vines, bamboo forests, and lush greenery, creating a serene and elegant atmosphere. Occasionally, bamboo fences and quail chickens can be seen jumping out of the trees, creating a sense of wonder and excitement. The trailhead can be accessed from Provincial Highway 62, passing through Longshan Tribe and Henglong Mountain Industry Road, and continuing to the end of the industry road. The trailhead is marked by a giant stone pillar with the words "Henglong Ancient Trail" carved on it. The trail ascends in a zigzag pattern, following stone steps. As you walk, you will come across a platform with stone steps, which was built by the Japanese as a stronghold to suppress the Tayal people. The remaining foundation and low walls serve as a historical testament. Continuing north, the scenery becomes even more serene, with dense growths of "wood", camphor trees, and other trees. Further ahead, a platform can be seen on the right, similar in structure to the previous one, which is the site of an old stronghold. Soon, a sandstone staircase can be seen winding its way up the trail, leading to a lookout point, from which you can gaze out at Dahu, Zhuolan, and Tongluo, with the sea of clouds rolling in and blending with the green hills and mountains, creating a breathtaking scene. As you continue on the trail, the mountain top comes into view, and the path becomes narrower and steeper. Looking to the right, you can see the sheer cliff face. The trail continues upward, with a platform offering a place to rest. Finally, you reach the mountain top, marked by a triangular survey point, known as the North Peak of Henglong Mountain, which is the endpoint of the Henglong Ancient Trail. The view from the top is excellent, with the distant Huoshan and Xueba National Park coming into sight. If you walk north from the summit, you can see a stone foundation, which the people of Longshan Tribe call the White Stronghold, or the site of an old stronghold, quietly recounting the history of the past.
