Mr. Huang Zhengyuan of the Tiaosong area in this township, believing that mulberries are a health-boosting food worth promoting, resolutely decided to cultivate them. His orchard practices ecological co-existence: laying eco-friendly ground cloth, never spraying chemical pesticides (weeds are pulled by hand, pests picked off), and using only natural organic fertilizers to foster tree growth, ensuring both a clean environment and fruit quality. With continuous technical support and guidance from the Miaoli Branch of the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, he has also devoted himself to researching and improving new varieties (Taiwan native strains and new breeds such as “Black Diamond”) and developing related products (mulberry enzyme, mulberry fruit-acid enzyme, mulberry paste, frozen fresh mulberries, mulberry-leaf gummy candy, mulberry gummy candy, and more). The mulberry orchard sits along the Beigang River in the township, amid rustic rural scenery ideal for school field trips and guided tours for organizations. It offers species and function introductions, seedling selection and planting promotion, and pick-your-own mulberries.
