[County-Designated Historic Site] The Guanyin Pavilion, also known as the Guanyin Temple, is situated along the western coast of the Magong City wall. Founded in the 35th year of the Qing Kangxi Emperor’s reign (AD 1696) by General Xue Kui of the Penghu Navy, the temple enshrines the Great Compassionate Bodhisattva Guanyin of the Southern Sea. It is the oldest Buddhist temple in all of Penghu. In the 11th year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign (AD 1885), it was once destroyed by the French army. Restoration efforts were funded by General Wu Hongluo in the 17th year of Guangxu (AD 1891). Subsequent renovations were conducted during the Japanese colonial period, and a major renovation in Republic of China Year 48 (AD 1959) shaped its current form. A pair of stone lions, erected in the 13th year of Guangxu (AD 1887) to ward off evil in accordance with ancient customs at the entrance of the Penghu garrison headquarters, were relocated to the current site of the Guanyin Pavilion in Showa Year 10 (AD 1935). These two powerful stone lions are the only such large lion sculptures in Taiwan, crafted with a mixture of glutinous rice paste, lime, and brown sugar. Remarkably, their complete preservation over the years is invaluable. [Evening Glow at Xiyu, Xiying Rainbow Bridge] The waters near the Guanyin Pavilion are renowned for sailing activities. During low tide, the area also becomes an ideal natural seawater beach. A 200-meter curved steel bridge within the district arches gracefully across the sea like a rainbow, presenting a romantic, ethereal scenery that transforms dramatically by day and night, making it a new landmark of Penghu. Notable events such as the Penghu International Fireworks Festival, open-water swimming in Penghu Bay, and the international sailing competitions are hosted here, further enhancing the renown of the Xiying Rainbow Bridge. The golden sunset, fireworks, sea views, and fluttering sails create a stunning new panorama that is now the most picturesque location in the area for sightseeing. This is also an excellent spot in Penghu for admiring the sunset. The Xiying Rainbow Bridge at night, with its vibrant multicolored lights reflected on the calm sea surface, forms a romantic and dazzling spectacle, a must-visit for couples. The Penghu Youth Activity Center, highly recommended by MasterChef Asia’s Victor Chien and Ko-Hsiang Lin, is located here. Furthermore, did you know that in Karen Mok’s music video "For the Love of You," where the lyrics go, "Want to ask you if you dare, to love me as you claim to love me, as I am crazed with this love..." the segment where she sits on the windowsill of the Penghu Youth Activity Center was filmed right here?
