Located beside Qixingtan, the Katsuobushi Museum was formed after an old katsuobushi workshop ceased operations and was subsequently renovated. In the past, the Qixingtan coastal area was heavily known for its abundance of skipjack tuna. Therefore, this katsuobushi museum is Taiwan's first museum dedicated to documenting the katsuobushi industry. Stepping into the well-preserved, antiquated premises with historical charm, visitors are instantly greeted by wafts of smoke and the fragrance of cured fish. The aged, charred baking rooms gradually evoke memories of the past through their scent and ambiance.
The museum features a fish processing area, an exhibition detailing the katsuobushi production process, and a DIY experience zone, reconstructing the original structure of a katsuobushi factory while showcasing the marine ecology of Qixingtan and the manufacturing procedures of katsuobushi. Originally constructed using the renovation of curing rooms, it is defined by cultural exploration themes, offering general exhibitions and interpretations of three key areas: the katsuobushi production process, fixed fisheries, and marine ecology. Additionally, numerous katsuobushi specialties and gourmet dining experiences are available, making this museum a prime destination for direct interaction with katsuobushi.
