Hsu Tsung-huan was born in 1965 in Dacheng, Changhua. In his ceramic creations, Hsu goes beyond mere functionality, embedding each piece with inner thoughts and ideas that speak through the work. Every hand-pinched pot is uniquely conceived, brimming with the rustic charm of traditional Taiwanese farming villages and evoking childhood memories. Casuarina trees lining the countryside, peanut fields stretching to the horizon, frogs in the drainage ditches, fallen logs beside the road—all are vividly woven into his ceramic art. Awards include the 2003 Sulphur Creek Prize for Sculpture at the 4th Sulphur Creek Art Exhibition, the 2007 “Taiwan Craft Studio” certification from the National Taiwan Craft Research Institute, selection as one of Changhua County’s “100 Centenarian Elites” in 2011, the Bronze Award at the 4th Ceramic Golden Pot Awards in 2012, and the 2014 17th Global Love of Life Medal from the Chou Ta-Kuan Cultural and Educational Foundation. Tao Garden Workshop, established in the 1990s, brings to this rural corner a space for appreciating clay, playing with clay, sipping tea, and passing on the craft. Through the shaping of clay, it conveys a feeling for the land, giving each teapot—beyond its function and the pleasure of holding it—an added warmth.
