The entrance to the Shuisui Lakeside Trail is a small wooden gate to the left of Shuisui Pier; it forms the key pedestrian link between the pier and Jiulongkou. The entire route is an accessible, gently sloped ramp, easy to walk. Following the lakeside wooden walkway past Chaowu Pier, you reach Jiulongkou. The trail is shaded by luxuriant trees, so even in midsummer it never feels hot. Along the way, locally quarried sandstone has been stacked into walls that echo the regional character, creating rest spots where visitors can pause, lean on the railing, and watch yachts shuttling across the lake; or gaze at the calm surface where sunlight dances on the ripples, as if thousands of pieces of gold and silver have fallen into the water. When mist rises, Xuanzang Temple on the Qinglong ridge looks like an ancient monastery in an ink-wash painting, evoking nostalgic reverie. From every angle along the trail, Cien Pagoda on Shabalan Hill stands on the ridge like a sword, forever guarding Sun Moon Lake. At Jiulongkou, artificial floating islands planted with wild ginger lilies dot the water; night herons sometimes hide among the leaves, poised to hunt. If you still have energy, continue to the Wenwu Temple Year-Steps Trail or climb the stairs across the way to the Bamboo-Stone Garden for another journey. After dark, looking back toward Shuisui Pier, hotels and restaurants glitter like multicolored gems against the night. Interpretive panels along the trail provide travel information and ecological knowledge, making it an ideal family walk.
