南投縣魚池鄉大竹湖步道
At just 180 meters long, the Dazhuhu Nature Trail is the shortest path along Sun Moon Lake. Enter beside the parking lot below the highway; a short walk brings you to an observation deck. To the right of the deck, a trail descends to the lakeshore. Below the trail, the lake surface bubbles noisily at the famous local sight known as the Sun Moon Fountain. In fact, this is the outlet of the Wujie diversion tunnel: during the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese bored an underground passage from Wujie Village in Ren-ai Township to Sun Moon Lake, channeling water from the upper Zhuoshui River to maintain a stable supply for the lake. Water-bird Wetlands—years of silt deposition have gradually created a shallow, reed-filled marsh that serves as a crucial spawning ground for fish and shrimp and as a habitat for egrets, night herons, and kingfishers. During migration season, flocks of ducks and geese gather here in a spectacular display.
