In the 1950s, the fishing industry in Nanfang'ao Fishing Harbor was thriving, and the demand for fishing boats led to the development of machinery manufacturing. As a result, iron factories that produced machinery for fishing boats and repaired them were established one after another. "Sangang Iron Factory" was established in 1962 and is one of the oldest iron factories in the Nanfang'ao area that still maintains its original function of repairing fishing boats. It witnessed the most prosperous years of Nanfang'ao.
The factory was initially founded by three masters, each with their own expertise, who were also good friends. The three of them formed a strong team, and thus the name "Sangang Iron Factory" was born. However, due to changes in the times and advancements in industrial technology, the iron factory decided to cease operations in 2004.
Under the efforts of the owner's son, Liao Daqing, who was dedicated to preserving cultural assets, the "Sangang Iron Factory Museum" was established on the original site. The first and second floors were transformed into a museum showcasing artifacts from the 1950s, while the third floor was converted into a local cultural center, featuring exhibits that change with the seasons. The overall content and form are quite rare in the country.
The entire historical space of the 1950s is filled with nostalgic artifacts and touching stories. Through explanations and guided tours, visitors can learn about the knowledge of the fishing harbor and experience a sense of nostalgia. It is a must-visit attraction in the Su'ao area.
