This star bakery with the old Taipei atmosphere is not far from Taipei Station, across from the Taipei City God Temple. Although it may look unimpressive, its pastries were the favorites of Chiang Jingguo and Chiang Fangliang. The star café on the second floor, which exudes star-like charm, is the earliest café in Taiwan.
It was founded by five descendants of the Russian royal family and a friend from Chung Cheng High School. Missing the taste of home bread and wanting to start a business, the six of them established "Star Bakery" on Wuchang Street in 1949, mainly specializing in Russian-style pastries. The signature pastries of Star Bakery include the Zhongshan-style pineapple cake, original pineapple cake, single-layer walnut cake, and Russian soft candy. Among them, the original pineapple cake won the 2006 Original Flavor Gold Award. In addition, friends are encouraged to try the very special Russian soft candy, which is not sticky to the teeth, and remains chewy even after being frozen. The walnut layer is crispy, and it tastes even better after being frozen. The packaging box is also very vintage, giving a Russian flavor!
