The Jiangsu North Road area's "Tiao Tong" culture originated during the Japanese colonial period. The various Japanese-style small restaurants and bars in the street blocks have been favorite places for many Japanese expatriates and tourists. It maintains an exotic atmosphere that has been carried over from the Japanese colonial period, and it is quite possible to feel the close connection with Taiwan's history.
To this day, Tiao Tong still preserves a strong Oriental atmosphere. Not only are there izakayas and kaiseki restaurants, but there are also many Japanese home-style dishes, such as pot-au-feu, oden, unagi don, and grilled meat. The aroma of old Tokyo can be smelled in the alleys.
The fusion of Taiwanese and Japanese cuisine here reflects Taiwan's past and modern food culture. For example, Qiqi Tong is the birthplace of Taiwan's barbecue culture.
