“Black Garden Coffee” is a converted residence. In addition to an indoor dining area, there is also an outdoor seating space just past the front gate; the entire outdoor area is designed around the concept of a garden, helping guests feel relaxed. The café is named after the owner’s nickname, “Little Black,” and because it is a coffee shop associated with the color black, it was christened “Black Garden Coffee.” The shop opened in May 2001. The owner, formerly a manager and factory director at Nestlé, left the company and, by chance, opened his own café near the Hukou Industrial Park and the Guangfu Road interchange. Besides selling coffee beans, the shop serves meals. Thanks to its proximity to the industrial park, it is packed on weekday lunchtimes, yet food arrives quickly so diners seldom wait long. Prices are modest: a set meal includes soup, a main dish, side dishes, and a post-meal beverage—tasty and inexpensive, making it a favorite for families and office workers alike. In 2002 it was featured in *Global Views Monthly*, and in 2003 it was interviewed by Public Television Service. It is now Taiwan’s largest contract-roasting facility for coffee beans, so the most professional and freshest coffee is found at Black.
