Chinese (Simplified) Worship of the Supreme Deity: **Zhenwu Da Di Festival** **Date:** Lunar March 3rd In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, immigrants from the Jinmen area of Fujian settled in this community. They honored General Liu Fu Yuan Shu with a golden body as their guardian spirit. In the 38th year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign, a small shrine was initially built on this site in August of the 8th lunar month. In the 25th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign, the shrine was rebuilt on a higher level, and additional deities such as the Pond Lord and the Royal Duke were enshrined, and the shrine was named “Chengwei Temple.” Since then, it has undergone four major reconstructions. In the spring of the 53rd year of the Republic of China (甲辰), the initiators Chen Peng and Li Yu convened to discuss a fifth major reconstruction. A fortunate date was chosen on the 8th of the 3rd lunar month in the 54th year (乙巳), and the shrine was demolished and rebuilt. On the 5th day of the first lunar month of the following year (丙午), at the hour of Shen, the sacred deity was formally welcomed and seated. The reconstruction was completed over the years.
