Next to the Ziguang District Fishermen's Association Exhibition and Sales Center, Sun Jixing operates "Tian Mama Seafood Restaurant" in Guoai Liao, located near Guoai Liao Fishing Port, offering visitors a place to enjoy fresh seafood after strolling the fish market, shopping for souvenirs, and watching sunsets.
Sun Jixing, who once held the prestigious title of executive chef at a luxury hotel, has joined forces with local fishing village mothers to fulfill their dream. From bidding for fresh catches at the market to engaging with customers in the restaurant, their commitment is freshness and affordability. He says, "There are three key things in making great food: fresh ingredients, attentive and thoughtful cooking, and the same care as if you were cooking for your own family."
Approximately 90% of the restaurant's seafood comes directly from Guoai Liao Fishing Port, which focuses on nearshore fishing. Fishing vessels depart before dawn and return at noon. Fish arrives at the harbor at noon and 4 PM daily. Sun visits the fish market to bid for the freshest catch. With a five-minute walk from the market to the restaurant, the food miles are minimal. A local produce market is also nearby, allowing the seafood restaurant to offer seasonally fresh seafood and vegetables at their peak natural sweetness and flavor.
The menu features fish varieties available throughout all four seasons. The freezer at the restaurant's entrance stocks daily freshly caught, season-specific fish, with dishes tailored to customers' preferences and group sizes. Sun's proudest creation, "Hua Diao Live Fresh Shrimp," was inspired by traditional distilled-spirit shrimp. He marinates cooked white shrimp in alcohol for a day and a half, resulting in firmer meat infused with rich aroma.
"White Poached Baby Squid" pairs well with five-spice sauce or garlic paste, with the freshest natural flavor being the best option. Additionally, "Fried Yellow Croaker" and "Bean Paste-stewed Manta Ray" are unique dishes found outside the regular menu. Moreover, surrounding the winter solstice is an ideal time to savor eel-based dishes!
