Romance at the Sea's Edge: A Date at Meiren Cave!
Meiren Cave is located at the northeastern tip of Lanyu Island (Island of Orchids). Backed by hills and facing the sea, the cave features unique rock formations primarily composed of coral reef. Marvel at the stunning scenery along the trail as you walk through natural coral cave systems, which are nothing short of awe-inspiring. Gazing out from a high vantage point, listening to the crashing waves and the shimmering sea, your mood will instantly become uplifted.
During spring and summer, treehoppers joyfully flit among the leaves, and busy ants can be seen diligently foraging on the coral. Hermit crabs and purple crabs scuttle about, while in the underbrush, skunks, yellow-bellied rats, and black rats are active. If you're lucky, you might even encounter a Level III protected species, the red-wattled lapwing bird, unexpectedly. On rainy nights, swarms of fireflies light up the area like a field of stars.
