Yuanli Township was originally inhabited by the Dakas (also known as the Plains Aboriginals). Before the Qing dynasty, there were four Dakas communities, including Fanglishe, Yuanlishe, Maowenshe, and Ribeishe. The area around Zhonggouwei (the western end of the Zhonggou area) is flat and vast. The "Zhonggou Zheng Family Settlement" was built here after the ancestors were guided by a wise man. The architectural layout of the entire "Zhonggou Zheng Family Settlement" faces south from the north. From a distance, it can be seen that the north (back) is against the mountain, and the south (front) is adjacent to a stream. On the right is the "Zheng Family Old House", in the middle is the "Dongli Family Style" three-combined courtyard, and on the left is the "Zheng Residence" Japanese-style ancient building. These buildings are connected from east to west to form a super large settlement, which is quite spectacular. The "Dongli Family Style" three-combined courtyard is a rare and well-preserved red brick tile and bank mud building in Taiwan. Under the guidance and repair of the government, it showcases the original architectural art style of exquisite carvings and delicate craftsmanship, following traditional Chinese architectural methods. The ancient house has a hundred-year-old cypress tree in front of the courtyard, and its complete three-combined courtyard is connected to the four protection dragons (side rooms) on the left and right, forming the most distinctive B&B area. It has also attracted many TV stations to shoot and film inside the ancient house. It is also one of the important tourist attractions in Yuanli Township.
