Taiwan Fu Ru Exam Hall was originally used by all Taiwanese examinees for the county exam. In the early Japanese colonial period it served as a temporary police station. In 1918 (Taisho 7), it was demolished due to an expansion project of the Taichung Provincial Office, and the site was relocated to become a police club, which allowed it to be preserved. Its relocation history testifies to the urban transformation from Qing-era official complexes to Japanese colonial provincial offices, making it highly valuable for preservation and architectural research. After a century of time, it is the only remaining Qing‑era exam hall in the country. In 2006 it was declared a municipal historic site. After the ruins were moved, only partial building structures remain. To properly preserve this cultural asset, the city government used a combination of old and new construction techniques to protect the existing Qing‑era wooden frame, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty of traditional architecture. The city has commissioned the private company "Geng Gan Landscape Creative Co., Ltd." to operate it, inviting the public to enter this cross‑disciplinary art space that blends exhibitions and coffee.
