The “National Museum of Taiwan History and Literature” is divided into three main buildings: the Artifact Building, the Historical Building, and the Literature Building. 1. Artifact Building: Located at the center of the complex, this Renaissance-style structure displays folk artifacts related to the daily life, clothing, food, housing, transportation, education, entertainment, religious beliefs, and customs of Taiwan’s early inhabitants. Permanent galleries present the folk culture of ordinary Taiwanese life; special exhibition rooms host rotating, diverse exhibitions. Since September 2017 the galleries have offered guided services for visually impaired visitors, including Braille overlays on the themes of each permanent gallery, tactile, color-enhanced Braille displays of key artifacts, and Braille booklets for browsing—please make full use of them. 2. Historical Building: The first floor houses an auditorium, gift shop, information desk, a topographical model of Taiwan, and galleries on prehistoric archaeological sites, the Pingpu peoples, and Taiwan’s indigenous groups. The second floor contains galleries on the Dutch and Spanish periods, the Zheng (Koxinga) era, the Qing period, and a special exhibition room. The third floor presents galleries on the Japanese colonial and post-WWII periods, notable figures and events in Taiwan’s history, and a display of national monument models. Arranged chronologically, these galleries systematically illustrate Taiwan’s prehistoric life remains and the processes and features of Taiwan’s development through each era; the fourth floor is a library. To serve visually impaired visitors, Braille books are available for browsing on every floor (locations shown on the floor plans), and Braille labels are placed on the text panels in each gallery. 3. The Literature Building stands on the right side of the entrance to the Taiwan History and Culture Park; it was officially opened in 1992. It has four above-ground floors and one basement, with a total floor area of approximately 1,700 ping.
