Infused with Chiayi’s rich historical lore, the Taiwan Pastry Beimen Forest Railway Story House was established to promote tourism in Chiayi City. Its exclusive souvenir—the Taocheng Taiping Cake—traces its origin to the Qing-era siege of Chiayi, when, with stores exhausted and no reinforcements in sight, soldiers and civilians pounded longan pits for sustenance, praying for an early return of peace; hence the name “Taiping (Peace) Cake.” The filling features famed Tainan Dongshan smoked longan, plump and perfectly sweet, paired with California walnuts, blending Eastern and Western ingredients. Honored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs as one of the Top 100 Shops in Taiwan and awarded the Chiayi City National Environmental Education Award, it has become a signature cultural attraction.
