Beigang Story House officially opened on March 23, 2012. Its founding mission is to promote Mazu’s spirit of universal love, safeguard local heritage on the brink of disappearance, gather master craftsmen and artists, infuse them with fresh energy, and—together with devoted partners—present the region’s time-honored character in its most authentic form, offering folklorists a venue for the study and remembrance of ancient artifacts. As a public-welfare-oriented venue, Beigang Story House shares the same ideals as Chaotian Temple. With the support of Chaotian Temple and this museum, Taiwanese student Wu Jian-heng has used the Taiwanese Third Prince puppet and the masks of the Eight Generals—icons of traditional folk culture—to travel across Asia, Africa, and South America, promoting Mazu culture and conducting citizen diplomacy. In the future, the initiative will be expanded, with the hope that Beigang Mazu will take her place on the international folk-culture stage.
