台中市大肚區磺溪里文昌一街10號
The predecessor was the Xiye Society, also known as the Wenchang Temple, founded by gentry Zhao Shunfang and Yang Zhan'ao during the Jiaqing reign of the Qing dynasty. In the 14th year of Guangxu (1888 AD), the "Huxi Academy" was built, recruiting students from the current Dadu, Longjing, and Wuri Districts, and implementing elementary education. The temple is dedicated to Wenchang Emperor, the god of pipelines. Every time the national exams, university entrance exams, two-year technical exams, and civil service exams approach, the temple is filled with photocopies of examinees' admission certificates. The layout of the academy is a four-courtyard building with two progression, double wings, seven openings, and four vertical pavilions, typical of the Guangxu period. The building materials include carved bricks, bluestone, Quanzhou white stone, and Fujian fir, which are exquisite and magnificent, comparable to the Zhanghua Daodong Academy. The Wenchang Temple, commonly known as Wenchang Temple, is dedicated to Wenchang Emperor, with a shrine and a main hall. The ancient plaque in the academy: "Yaoge Filial Piety" was established by Liao Jinhua, a Juren who was selected as a palace guard in the Guangxu reign. "Jing Tian Wei Di" "Guangxu Year, February, the director and gentry of Huxi Academy jointly established." The stone pillar couplet: "Huxi Stone Comfort Half Wall Steeply Opens the Pen Array, Creek Flow Reflects Green Thousand Layers, Vast Waves of Literature." "Huxi Atmosphere Connects Dan Xiao Ling Emperor Throne, Creek Marks Connect Green Han Brightly Shining the Court." The large ancient bell of Huxi Academy was plundered by the Japanese military during the Pacific War, and now it is placed in the Dadu Elementary School campus. The inscription on the bell is as follows: "Huxi Academy, Wenchang Emperor, Guangxu 15th year, autumn, on the day of the first month, the director and gentry jointly established." Huxi Academy is the oldest existing building in Dadu District and the only existing academy in Taichung City, now a municipal historical site. Huxi Academy, commonly known as Wenchang Temple, was the cultural and educational center of the greater Dadu area (including Dadu, Wuri, and Longjing Townships) in the past. Built during the Guangxu reign, it has a history of over 130 years. The building materials, shape, and construction techniques are all very exquisite, especially the brick carving, which is renowned for its beauty and is considered an outstanding work of civil architecture in the late Qing period. Since its establishment during the Qing reign, Huxi Academy has been the spiritual symbol and cultural stronghold of the Dadu area. In the early years, the ancestors of the residents were educated here, and during the imperial examination period, many scholars emerged. Subsequently, generations continued the tradition, and the academic atmosphere flourished, with many aspiring scholars graduating from Huxi Academy. To this day, the Dadu District remains steeped in cultural and educational traditions, earning it the reputation as the "Hometown of Educators." Guided tours: ■ Have □ No ■ Appointment system.
