Established in 1898 as Dadaocheng Public School, in 1909, due to the construction of Taihe Town Road (modern Yanping North Road), the school land was divided into two parts. The east campus was established as Dadaocheng First Public School (now Taiping Elementary School), and the west campus was the current Yongle Elementary School. Taiping Elementary School also has many notable alumni, such as artists Huang Tuh-shui and Yang San-lang, as well as notable entrepreneur Ku Chen-fu. After the 228 incident in 1947, Taiping Elementary School was used as a detention center for arrested criminals.
