2024-04-11
Taipei Station (called Taipei Station by Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taipei Metro) is located in Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan. It is an underground railway station integrated with three rail systems, the Taiwan Railway Administration, Taiwan High Speed Rail, and the Taipei Metro. It is also a transfer station for the Taipei Metro Banan Line and the Tamsui Xin-Yi Line. Not only is it the main transportation hub in northern Taiwan, but it is also the largest railway station in terms of building scale and passenger volume in Taiwan. The number of passengers transferring daily is over 500,000, and the total number of users ranks 25th in the world. Taipei Station was established on July 5, 1891. After several relocations and renovations, the current station building was put into use on September 2, 1989. The headquarters of the Taiwan Railway Administration is also located here. After the introduction of the Metro and High Speed Rail, it formed a vast underground district. The area around the station has a station-front commercial district with offices, tutoring schools, and other businesses. If connected to related facilities of the "Taipei Station Special Zone," such as Taipei Bus Terminal, Metro Beimen Station, Airport Metro Taipei Station, and Huashan Area, the total area can reach 46.31 hectares. In addition, Taipei Station is commonly called "Taipei Railway Station." In the Hokkien dialect, it is called "Taipei Railway Head" or "Taipei Train Head." The younger generation often simply refers to it as "Beiche."
