Taipei Mosque

2024-04-11
台北市大安區新生南路2段62號
Walking along Xinsheng South Road, you will surely see a special building. It has a 15-meter-high round arch ceiling. Everyone who passes by cannot help but turn around and take a second look. This is the Taipei Grand Mosque.

The mosque is a place of worship for Islam (the Muslim faith). The Taipei Grand Mosque covers an area of 2,747 square meters, and was completed on April 13, 1960. It was jointly funded and built by Taiwan and Saudi Arabia. The architect was Mr. Yang Zhuochen, who also designed the Yuanshan Hotel.
The main structure is made of reinforced concrete, with brick walls strengthened by cement and gravel, surface treatment, and mosaic patterns. The circular stone columns are processed by chiseling. The main doors and windows are designed with large floor-to-ceiling windows. Another notable feature is that the dome inside the prayer hall is 15 meters high from the ground, spans 15 meters, and is supported without any columns in the center.

The prayer hall is paved with a hand-woven Persian wool carpet gifted by the King of AIG, and it is hung with palace chandeliers. The two minarets on the outside are more than 20 meters high, and the building is grand and magnificent. For more than 40 years, kings, presidents, and leaders from various Islamic countries who visited China have always included a visit to the mosque as an important part of their schedule, fully demonstrating the mosque's function in international diplomacy and civilian exchange.

When visiting the mosque, please pay attention to etiquette. The main prayer hall and the women's prayer hall on the second floor are only open to Muslims.
