The Changhua County Nature and Ecology Education Center is located next to the Qing’an Waterway near the mouth of the Dadu River in Shengang Township. This pure-white structure hugging the shoreline, set against a green grassy slope, shimmering water, and white wind turbines, gives visitors a dreamlike, refreshing sensation. Echoing the fact that the West Coast just beyond is the habitat of the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, the center’s shell—arching like a leaping dolphin—has been nicknamed the “White Dolphin House.” It evokes romantic feelings while conveying a mission of conservation. Not only is it hailed as the most photogenic Instagram hotspot, it is also the most striking gateway to understanding the ecology of Taiwan’s western coastal plain.
