Do you grown-ups still remember the sweet childhood memory of seeing the Yakult lady pedal from door to door on her bicycle to deliver Yakult, and of getting one free tangy-sweet bottle after touring the Yakult factory? The household name Yakult has been in Taiwan for more than half a century; the plant moved from Xinzhuang, Taipei, to Zhongli, Taoyuan, in 1999, was rebuilt on the same site in 2013, and today’s new Zhongli factory is a green, eco-friendly, high-tech, multipurpose modern plant. As you enter the reception area on the ground floor, a three-dimensional Yakult-lady mascot welcomes you. The interior is bright and comfortable, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. The tour route includes a history-of-Yakult zone, display cases of early artifacts and products, and a process-viewing corridor. From lactic-acid-culture propagation to finished product, everything is explained through audiovisual guides, letting visitors see exactly how Yakult is made and even watch live, magnified images of active Yakult bacteria through a microscope.
