Sustainable Inheritance of Fish Weir Culture: The stone fish weirs along the coast of Xinwu are mainly located in Koujian, Shenzhen, and Yongxing. Currently, those in Yongxing Village have disappeared, leaving only Koujian Village and Shenzhen Village. On April 8, 2019, the Taoyuan City Government, in accordance with the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act, registered the relatively well-preserved No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6 stone weirs in Koujian Village, Xinwu, as a cultural landscape to strengthen protection. It is expected that all 11 existing stone weirs will be restored by 2023, and efforts will be made to pass down the skills and preserve them. The Xinwu Fish Weir Story Museum will be used to share the historical stories of the century-old stone weirs.
Xinwu Fish Weir Story Museum: The Xinwu Kou No. 1 coast guard station was built in 1990 as a police dormitory, located in a windbreak forest beside the beach in Koujian Village, Xinwu, with a beautiful scenery. After the government lifted martial law and withdrew its troops, it gradually became an abandoned space. In September 2018, the Taoyuan City Government invested approximately NT$7 million in renovation and revitalization.
The museum was completed in March 2020 and transformed into the Xinwu Fish Weir Story Museum and a visitor center. It provides visitors with an understanding of local traditional fishing culture while also serving as a platform for cultural inheritance and environmental education.
1F Fish Weir Cultural Guided Tour Area: Displays stone weir models and artifacts, recording the development trajectory of Xinwu's stone weirs. Through the "Handheld Xinwu" APP developed with the help of local youth, combined with AR technology, visitors can simulate the fun of fishing during the rising and falling tides.
2F Marine Makerspace Classroom: Extends the preservation of fish weir culture to marine environmental protection initiatives. The marine makerspace classroom provides DIY hands-on teaching using recycled marine debris, allowing the public to become aware of the importance of marine protection through interactive experiences.
3F Fish Weir Observation Area: Offers a panoramic view of the sea. The beautiful coast of Xinwu stretches out before your eyes. You can quietly feel the sea breeze blowing, the sound of waves hitting the shore. Grab a cup of coffee and relax and enjoy the leisurely afternoon.
