The Chiayi City Museum, located next to the Chiayi Lumber Factory, was established in 2004 as the only large-scale comprehensive multi-functional museum in the Chiayi area at the time. Its exhibits focus on the natural landscapes of Chiayi, including geology and fossils. The museum closed in 2018 for an update of its exhibits and was repositioned as the "City Museum" of Chiayi. With a new mission of "Chiayi people care about Chiayi, and outsiders explore Chiayi," it showcases the cultural characteristics of Chiayi, the history of its citizens, and their living memories. It aims to become a museum that belongs to the city and its people.
Repositioned as the "City Museum," the Chiayi City Museum offers a fresh perspective and content, allowing visitors to see the city anew. The museum features an "Explore Jiayuan" children's hall on the first floor, where kids can learn about the city's history through interactive play. The second floor hosts a permanent exhibit called "Looking Out at Zhuo Luo," which allows visitors to see Chiayi, its history, its future, and themselves through the exhibits. The third floor houses the "Building a Story on Stage - Come Listen to the Temple Storyteller" Cihui Kiln Museum, which presents Chiayi's distinctive craft of Cihui Kiln ceramics in a "museum within a museum" format.
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
