Chen Yun Bao Chuan Liberty Road Flagship Store
Century-old Shop, Re-innovated
During the Japanese colonial period, the first-generation founder Mr. Chen Yun sold pastries at the triangular street corner in today’s Fengyuan downtown. In 1943, the second-generation Mr. Chen Jin-Quan’s handmade “Daifuku mochi,” praised for its delicate craftsmanship and authentic taste, became a hit in Japan. Mr. Chen established “Bao Chuan Confectionery Main Store” in Tokyo, marking the origin of Bao Chuan.
In 1975, the third-generation Mr. Chen Zeng-Xiong opened the original Bao Chuan shop on Zhongzheng Road—Fengyuan’s “Pastry Street.” Blending traditional Taiwanese and Japanese baking methods, he reinvented classic mooncakes, successfully creating mini mooncakes and yolk pastries that took the market by storm.
The fourth-generation Mr. Chen Kun-Hong later developed exclusive products such as “Lu Zhi Guo” and “Sun & Moon Bake,” pushing confectionery artistry to new heights. Over the years, the brand has received countless Gold Awards in food evaluations and the Taichung Specialty Store Award, among many others.
In 2013, the Liberty Road flagship store added the founding first-generation’s name “Chen Yun” to “Bao Chuan,” becoming “Chen Yun Bao Chuan,” symbolizing gratitude to one’s roots and the passing down of techniques and culture through generations. Fourth-generation successor Mr. Chen Kun-Hong, who studied pastry arts in Japan, coupled with time-honored family expertise, has long been a master confectioner.
