The Shisanceng Water Park is located on the mid-reach floodplain of Mudan Creek. Built in 2005 by Shuangxi District Office, it is also known as Sandiaoshi Water Park. Surrounded by forested hills and verdant trees, it offers refreshing breezes under blue skies and white clouds that leave visitors feeling completely at ease. Within the park, the creek murmurs, the grass is green, and nearby terraced fields and scattered farmhouses create a simple, elegant setting—an ideal spot for quiet relaxation.
Rich aquatic ecosystems
A cold spring bubbles up near the upstream section of the park, its temperature constant year-round. Word of mouth draws many visitors in midsummer to splash and cool off. Under the “closed-stream fish-protection” policy, Mudan Creek supports abundant aquatic life, including species such as the pale chub, Rhinogobius, and Sinogastromyzon. Damselflies often perch on the streamside boulders. The New Taipei City Tourism Bureau has upgraded the existing flagstone paths with low-impact, permeable paving to create an accessible environment, shaping a recreational space that is both ecological and suitable for all ages.
Rest stop on the Northern Branch of the Danlan Historic Trail
From Shisanceng Water Park, a 500 m walk north leads to the trailheads of Diaoshan Historic Trail and Canguangliao Historic Trail. Diaoshan Trail was once the main route for early settlers traveling between Jiufen and Jinguashi. Gold was discovered here in 1898, and the ensuing rush turned Mudan into a thriving mining town. A 600 m walk south from the park reaches the trailhead of Jinzipai (Golden Stele) Historic Trail, where visitors can view the golden inscription left by Qing garrison commander Liu Ming-deng and continue all the way to Houtong Station.
