新北市中和區興南路三段40巷26號
The White Horse Temple in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, was established in 1968 (ROC 57). The building covers an area of approximately 688 pings. The main deity worshiped is Shakyamuni Buddha, and the secondary deities are the Western Three Sages. The temple was named White Horse Temple to commemorate the White Horse Temple in Luoyang, which is considered the beginning of Buddhism in China. The temple was initially founded by two Buddhist nuns, Dahui and Jingding, who led a group to establish a Buddhist monastery. They began by borrowing three rooms from a believer and started with self-cultivation as the primary purpose. Later, with donations from believers, they purchased the land and started construction in 1976 (ROC 65). In 1980 (ROC 69), the Five-View Hall was built, and in 1984 (ROC 73), the Amitabha Hall was constructed. However, due to a flood, it took two years to complete. In 1993 (ROC 82), the construction of the Grand Hero Hall began. The main feature of the temple is the emphasis on the Pure Land school of Buddhism, with reciting the Buddha's name as the primary method of practice. The goal is to promote the Pure Land teachings. Currently, the abbot is Venerable Dahui. In addition to regular charity work, such as helping the poor and those in need, the temple established the White Horse Educational Foundation in March 1997 (ROC 86). The foundation provides scholarships and hosts lectures.
