Lingyun Temple is the oldest temple on Guanyinshan, commonly known as "Nei Yan". It was founded in 1739 (the 4th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign). In the early years of Emperor Guangxu's reign, bandits hid in the temple. Liu Mingchuan sent troops to quell and burn down the temple. After that, it was rebuilt on the original site and called Lingyun Temple, which belongs to Taoism. The temple was built in a single hall style. The main hall was built with stones from Guanyinshan. The roof tiles are traditional red tiles. The asymmetrical horse backs in the front and rear are a feature. The temple is flanked by green dragon on the left and white tiger on the right, with a screen in the front and a hill behind, making it a perfect geographical environment. It is the faith center of the local community. The temple has many antique couplet boards and steles, which bring a sense of simplicity and distance to travelers.
Every March, the top of Guanyinshan is often shrouded in mist and fog. At this time, the best place to observe eagles is at the mid-slope. Located at a lower altitude, Lingyun Temple is an important spot for eagle-watching. One can observe low-flying raptors. The tall trees here are home to many hornbills, making it a great place for nocturnal wildlife observation.
