Dab a burst of color onto an old neighborhood—“When the umbrella opens, let’s hold it up for love.” For more than ten thousand days, diligent hands have shuttled between fabric and metal, deftly cutting, sewing, and assembling. After layer upon layer of work, the Rainbow House all-weather umbrella—created with care by a hundred people—comes to life. Out of deep affection for the place where it all began, the island’s first museum devoted to the umbrella industry, “Kalishu Tree,” took root at the end of 2016 in Hemei, Changhua, a town still wrapped in simplicity. Gently open an umbrella—whether for yourself, family, lover, or friend—and every kind of love can be expressed the instant the canopy spreads. Holding an umbrella is like speaking the common language of love. Come to “Kalishu Tree” and “hold an umbrella for love” together.
