Two rows of Taiwanese golden-rain trees line the right bank of the Dongluo Creek (from Daima Bridge to County Road 148), forming a 1.5-km green tunnel that changes faces with every season. In spring the foliage is a lush, glistening green; from September to October the trees are in bloom, yellow petals drifting down like golden rain. After the petals fall the fruit sets, the capsules turning from bright red to deep red and finally to reddish purple. Because flowering and fruiting occur at different times, the trees are dappled in a riot of colors. Late summer to early autumn is the green tunnel’s most beautiful moment. After enjoying the blossoms, join the queue for the wildly popular Xihu mutton hotpot, or head to the Wujia Dough Figurine Museum for a hands-on DIY experience with this traditional craft.
