Located at the heart of Kaohsiung's Asia New Bay District, the Kaohsiung Music Center is designed and constructed by a Spanish architectural team in collaboration with a local Taiwan team. Drawing inspiration from maritime elements, the design team has crafted a series of unique architectural forms, making it not only the core performance hub for popular music in southern Taiwan, but also an international landmark of music culture. Highlighting popular music while carrying forward the oceanic cultural heritage, the center establishes a new base for music and leisure. Approved by the Executive Yuan in 2009, the project is planned, designed, and built by the Ministry of Culture through Kaohsiung City Government, operated under a newly established government-affiliated organization model.
Positioned at Aihua Bay where Aihua River meets the Kaohsiung Harbor, the center comprises the twin towers (High & Low Piers), Coral Reef Complex, Whale Embankment, Dolphin Promenade, and LIVE WAREHOUSE. The twin towers consist of High Pier, Low Pier, Sea Breeze Plaza, and Amphitheatre, with wave-like undulating forms reflecting Kaohsiung's harbor identity. The Amphitheatre provides indoor performance capacity for 4,000-6,000 people, filling a medium-scale venue gap in Taiwan. Sea Breeze Plaza accommodates 8,000-10,000 visitors open-air.
The Coral Reef Complex is a two-level commercial mix-use space modeled after coral formations. The Whale Embankment houses six independent performance venues, including arenas now occupied by eSports Alliance and KKBOX at No.3 & No.5 Whale Halls. Front-row waterfront access combined with green viewing platforms offers breathtaking sunset views. Conveniently adjacent to Guangrong Wharf Light Rail Station and featuring ample parking, this coastal promenade is ideal for leisurely strolls day or night.
The Dolphin Promenade, a 735-meter skywalk connecting all zones, features dolphin-leap-up design with 5-meter ceiling height and panoramic glass walls for unobstructed ocean vistas. The LIVE WAREHOUSE complex serves as southern Taiwan's most powerful musical base, uniquely positioned at the waterfront. This 1,000-person professional concert venue in C10 of Da Gu District, with weekly performances at Small Workshop (230) and Large Workshop (1,400) spaces within the Fort Two area, has rapidly become a pilgrimage site for music enthusiasts.
