台東縣卑南鄉龍過脈112號
In 1901, the Japanese imported Arabica coffee from Java. The cultivation trials in Hengchun, Pingtung yielded abundant results. In 1912, the coffee was promoted to places such as Taitung and Hualien. Companies such as the Eastern Taiwan Coffee Co., Ltd., the Taitung Revitalization Co., Ltd., and the Kumura Coffee Store Taiwan Business Division were established to specialize in the development of Taiwan’s coffee industry. Until 1970 (the 70th year of the Republic of China), Taitung still had nearly 30 hectares of pristine coffee plantations, where simple farmers adhered to the laws of natural generation and cultivated fragrant, mellow coffee using natural farming methods. In Beinan Township, Taitung County, the ancient Bunun place name Nadanaw (龍過脈) is famous for its bamboo forests. Located between the Central Mountain Range and the Coast Range (commonly called the “Nine Ports Wind”) in the Pacific Kuroshio current basin, the bamboo leaves fragrance every winter when the northeast monsoon arrives, signaling coffee ripening. The coffee farmers express their gratitude to the land and nature, sharing the joy of the fragrant bamboo leaves and the coffee harvest.
