The Taichung Broadcasting Bureau, listed as a historic building by the Taichung City Cultural Bureau in 2002, holds the record for the most windows in a building with a total of 94 windows. Different window designs were created to serve various functions. From sunrise to sunset, the Taichung Broadcasting Bureau showcases different colors and moods. In addition to its numerous windows, the exterior of the building is classified as an "over-decorated modern style" architecture, directly reflecting the historical background of its era. More stories and features of the broadcasting bureau await your exploration.
BCC EmblemOn the balcony outside the second floor of the Taichung Broadcasting Bureau, there are 7 white emblems. Among these, the middle three clearly display "BCC," while the remaining four combine the Taichung City emblem with the logo of the Taiwan Broadcasting Corporation. The city emblem, currently in use, features a symmetrical "中" character in a circle, symbolizing unity and simplicity. This emblem was designed during the Taisho period in 1921 (1921) to commemorate the completion of the Taichung City Hall. It was selected from 2,099 entries in a public design competition, with the winning design by Nakamura & Matsuzaki (then employed by the Taiwan Railway Engineering Office).
Stone LanternThe stone lantern was first discovered in Taichung Park and later moved to its current location at the Taichung Broadcasting Bureau. It is believed to have originally belonged to the Taichung Shrine. The stone lantern is well-preserved and bears inscriptions such as "Founded on June 18, 1918," and "December 28, 1930." However, due to the 12-year gap between its manufacture and installation, and the uncertainty of its abandonment, it remains an "enigmatic" stone lantern.
WindowsThe first floor of the Taichung Broadcasting Bureau, spanning 150 ping (approximately 500 square meters), features 68 windows. Not only does the building have numerous windows, but it also boasts a wide variety of window designs. As the sun rises and sets, the windows of the Taichung Broadcasting Bureau reveal different appearances. It is recommended to follow the sunlight and take photos with the windows to experience the changing interplay of light and shadow. These windows and window sills have accompanied the broadcasting bureau for 80 years; let us all work together to preserve this important cultural heritage.
